Friday Five

I decided to do an actual Friday Five today. I haven't done any of these for a while, but I figured I'd do one today.

1. What is your lineage? Where are your ancestors from? I'm mostly German, about half. And there's a good bit of Russian. There's bits of Irish, Scotch, Swiss, and English too.
2. Of those countries, which would you most like to visit? I've actually been lucky enough to visit Europe, and we went to one of the cities that some of my dad's ancestors are from. I woule love to go to Scotland. My Nanny traced our Scottish ancestors back to the McAlister clan in the 1600's. I would love to be able to go there and continue searching backwards.
3. Which would you least like to visit? Why? Right now, Russia. It's just too politically unstable. I think it would be amazing to visit, but just not now. Maybe some years from now when it calms down.
4. Do you do anything during the year to celebrate or recognize your heritage? Nothing specific, the only thing that comes close is my beginning attempts to continue and expand my Nanny's geneology. I've been trying to expand it to the other three branches of my ancestors. It's quite a beginning effort on my part, but I'm working on it.
5. Who were the first ancestors to move to your present country (parents, grandparents, etc)? I know the German ones came over in the 1800's, I recently discovered that they may have come through Ellis Island. We're not sure yet, but it's a good possibility. The Russian ones were late 1800's or early 1900's I don't remember off the top of my head.

OK, I'm really glad I decided to do the Friday Five today! This is a subject that I thoroughly enjoy; I could talk about my ancestors and the stories that I know for hours!

And I'm hearing birds chirping which means I should really go to bed!

Ack!

I am dreading the thought of packing everything again. I know I have a month, but it's such an ordeal. And once you get everything out, you still have to clean the place thoroughly. Yikes! Time is such a precious commodity too. I almost always work a 6 day week leaving just one day off (I probably didn't need to say that, we all past 2nd grade math right?) I realize I can do some packing on days that I work too, but that's always really hard for me. I get home from work and just want to relax for an hour and then go to bed.

I'll figure it out tho', of course I really don't have an option on that one. I HAVE to figure it out.

I do really like my new place. It's quite a bit smaller, but it's just going to be me and Dolce and we don't need a ton of space. It's the back part of a husband & wife's house. So, I have two floors which is pretty cool. The upstairs is really more of a loft style room, that's the bedroom. There's hardwood floors up there, & an A/C which is very important as I HATE being hot. It's pretty big which is nice of course. The downstairs is a living room/kitchen combo. I think I'm going to be able to screen the kitchen off so it won't be the focal point of the living room. The bathroom is also downstairs, it has a nice big tub which will be really nice. I've been missing soaking in the tub!

I'm thinking about starting a part of my site like Save Karyn's. My debt is out of control and I think that having it out in public might help keep me honest about it. Plus, there'd be the link staring at me every time I go blogging and I'd think about it. I dunno, maybe it isn't a good idea, but it can't hurt right?

Searches

I just checked my referral info and found a strange search string... frustrated pics. I'm kinda wondering what the person was looking for. What exactly are "frustrated pics"? Pictures that are always annoyed?

OK, I'm gonna be a dork for a second... this was the first time something other than my name got a search to my site. I think that's worth mentioning. OK, I'll stop being a dork now.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to I Want to Believe! She's 21. And boy is she excited about that! At this point her birthday was technically yesterday (Saturday) but we all know how out of whack my days are. To me it's still Saturday, so Happy Birthday!!

I'm Doug!

I just couldn't resist this quiz. I watch the show all the time.

take the which one of the trading spaces cast are you? quiz!

I think it's really funny that I turn out to be Doug. It does kinda fit in a weird and twisted sort of way tho'.

Common Threads

I'm excited, I just got an e-mail from Common Threads accepting me as a participant on their photolog. I've been completely enjoying checking that site for new/interesting pics over the last few weeks and I'm all excited that I get to participate now. (how's that for a run-on sentence!) I do really need to update my photo album, it's already a couple weeks out of date. Maybe this will be the motivation I need. In fact, I might just go work on that in a couple minutes.

I'm being very stream-of-conciousness-y today!

If I do manage to update anything I'll post again of course!

August 7, 2002

Sleep

I haven't posted for a couple days, as I haven't felt motivated enuf' to actually do anything! I have a load of pics I need to sort through and upload, and I need to make my first post to Common Threads, and that involves figuring out the format that's used over there. I also need to start packing for the big move... I think I've said something about packing just about every post for the past week, and I have yet to actually do any packing.

I've been having really odd dreams the last couple nights. When I've actually been able to sleep. They're things that could happen in real life. Last night I had one about running out of checks. How weird is that? I had a dream about running out of checks. Then today I was going to go buy myself some dinner and I thought "Oh No! I don't have any checks. I'll have to go home and get more checks before I can go get dinner." Then when I looked in my checkbook I had plenty of checks. Very strange.

Not a geek Yet..

18.75 %

My weblog owns 18.75 % of me.
Does your weblog own you?
So I'm not a complete blog geek yet. Give me time... my percentage will probably increase daily!

Debt

I have finished writing the html for my very own debt page. I liked Karyn's so much that I decided to make my own. I figure even if I don't generate the hits she has, it'll at least keep me honest and will be a motivation for me to keep working on it. Don't go looking for it, it isn't uploaded yet. It's on a computer that I can't get hooked up to the internet until later tonight. So, hopefully in the wee hours of the morning there will be a brand new page here on Sunidesus Dot Com! Wish me luck!

August 9, 2002

Debt, Part 2

I have the debt page finished. There's a link over in the upper left. Check it out, help me out. Or... if you don't like it, make fun! Either way, I hope you have a giggle on me. Thanx!

Friday Five

It's only a day late! That's not so bad.

1. Do you have a car? If so, what kind of car is it? I have a red '01 Kia Rio
2. Do you drive very often? Well, I drive to and from work every day, but I think that's pretty normal for most people. I do drive to the Twin Cities (St. Paul & Minneapolis, MN for any non-midwesterners) an average of once a month. That's about it for my driving escapades tho'. There is the occasional Geocaching escapade, but that isn't more than 30 miles most of the time.
3. What's your dream car? I have to pick one? I love the Jeep. Not the big Cherokee, but the smaller ones. I also like the new bugs. I would love to have a bright yellow one. My other favorite is the PT Cruiser.
4. Have you ever received a ticket? Not a moving one, but I've gotten a parking ticket.
5. Have you ever been in an accident? A little one. I was driving home from the Twin Cities around 10 at night. It was snowing VERY hard so the interstate was going a lot slower than normal. I went to switch lanes and a big ice chunk hit one of my wheels. I fishtailed all the way across the interstate and then slamed into the guard rail. Thankfully there wasn't anyone behind me or they would have been hit too. I was fine, but the car had major issues. That's actually when I bought the car I have now.

There, it's late, but I did a Friday Five. The first one in a few weeks too!

Beware Another Geek Test

You are 43% geek
You are a geek liaison, which means you go both ways. You can hang out with normal people or you can hang out with geeks which means you often have geeks as friends and/or have a job where you have to mediate between geeks and normal people. This is an important role and one of which you should be proud. In fact, you can make a good deal of money as a translator.
Normal: Tell our geek we need him to work this weekend.

You [to Geek]: We need more than that, Scotty. You'll have to stay until you can squeeze more outta them engines!

Geek [to You]: I'm givin' her all she's got, Captain, but we need more dilithium crystals!

You [to Normal]: He wants to know if he gets overtime.

Take the Polygeek Quiz at Thudfactor.com

I actually took this one twice. I wanted the David Duchovny pic (IWTB plz correct my spelling) for my friend, so I had to tell it I was a boy even tho' I'm not. The percent part is the same, but the pic was a girl & I didn't want the girl one! I wanted the boy one!

Additions

I just added a bunch of links over in the "Places I Lurk" area. Some are places I've visited before and was just too lazy to add to the list. Others are somewhat new to me but were found mostly through Common Threads. Melyssa has a birdie that looks a lot like my Dolce! He's a green-cheek, where Dolce is a maroon-bellied. Very similar, and VERY cute!

I really need to update my photo album. OK, how many times have I said that in the last week? I have new pics of Dolce & the kitties, plus my cousin's wedding shower & wedding. The ones I really need to do are the ones from an outing with the family to a local river. 4/5 year old cousins are such fun! I really will get around to doing that at some point, honest. Probably about the same time I get around to packing! (IWTB, I can see you laughing, stop that!)

Yikes!

Scary link I found on Fark. It's the various faces of Michael Jackson through the years. The progression from black man to scary white woman is really bizarre. Check it out here.

Which Greek Goddess Quiz

See which Greek Goddess you are.

See which Greek Goddess you are.

There was a tie! Apparently I'm both Artemis & Athena. I'm not sure what that means, but it's a nifty quiz anyway.

Eek!

I just noticed that Artemis has some boobie action happening on her artwork. Apparently the goddess of the hunt is also a nudist!

August 13, 2002

Update

I just remembered! I actually updated my photo album! I added the pictures from my cousin Jennifer's wedding shower in the Cities (Minneapolis & St. Paul, MN for non-midwesterners) about a month or two ago. I still need to upload the family outing to Big Falls & the actual wedding, but I'm making progress.

I also have a Hannah update. She's up to 3 pounds, 5 ounces. Yeah Hannah! Apparently when she hits 4 pounds she gets to go home. So, she's getting there.

And... Cis called me a genius. She's on to me! LOL Thanx for the compliment tho!

Hoping

I'm crossing my fingers that this works. I've been battling w/Yahoo for the past 36 hours and finally have a different domain name w/a new host and I'm really hoping that it is easy for me to move my stuff. So... here goes!

August 15, 2002

Moving

Moving one's site is really a pain in the butt! This is majorly annoying!

Getting There

The main page works, the buttons show up, the comments work, archives work, and the debt page works. I just need to fix the photo album and I'm all better! Yeah! I'm so excited that my site is back. I've been in blog withdrawl for the past 36 hours! I can blog again!!!!!!!!

So I'm excited, sue me!

Catching Up

I'm spending all day catching up on blogs! I've been in such blog withdrawl it's sad. I've made it half way through my list and just stopped to change a link. So, now I'm going to continue and if I'm feeling really ambitious I may upload pictures to the Photo Album. We'll see!

August 16, 2002

Tragedy

They cut Wil from Nemesis! Boo Hoo! I was really looking forward to seeing him in it. I guess the original cut of the movie was 3 hours long so they had to chop a ton of stuff out of it and his part was one of the first to go. I guess I'll just have to wait for the DVD to see it. Oh well, such is life.

August 17, 2002

Power?

Major problems at work today. Apparently there was a lightning strike either at or very near the building last night about 12:56 a.m. Which shall be referred to as the "12:56 incident". EVERYTHING went down, some of it is starting to get back to working, but a lot is still fried. If you don't know me, I work at a TV station, so... both weather computers went down, one of them was actually smoking when the first engineer got in this morning. So, no weather graphics. The computer that generates all our news/sports graphics is dead. So, no graphics, no keys (the line at the bottom of the screen with a name or location or information on it), no scoreboards, no nothing. The cameras are robotic and the controller is fried. So, the cameras have to be manually moved into position and then are stuck wherever they are. So, limited camera shots. The headsets aren't working, so I (the director) have to shout at my crew instead of just talking like a normal person. The system where we get all our video is down. The phones aren't working. We have cables running everywhere, engineers running around, it's madness I tell you! Madness!

Speaking of which, I have to go figure out if I can do a graphic through a different computer. One that kinda works as opposed to the one that completely doesn't work! Wish me Luck!

August 19, 2002

Power, (sorta)

Well, things are slowly getting fixed at work. The monitors are all looking normal again, and the phones work, one of the weather computers is working again, but the line where it gets it's information is down, so it can't do a lot yet. Cameras are still messed up, as are... the board, graphics computer, news wires, headsets, tape decks... It's been an interesting couple of days. When I finally went home after being up for 24 hours I crashed and slept like a log for 10 hours straight. I don't think I even moved. Back at work now, and hoping that the football game (It's Monday Night Football time again!) takes a long time so that I have more time to work. We have to put together Northland so that all the dubs can go out tomorrow, and that will be interesting because all of the equipment is in various states of disarray. So, I should really stop messing around on-line and go do some work! I think I'll do that.

One more Thing

We the production crew ROCK!!!

HHHHHHUUUUAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't get it... don't worry. It's a weird little in-joke that people at work understand.

Giggles

I found this post in this blog. It made me laugh out loud, so I decided to share it!

Word is truly a tool of the devil. I had heard that it did craptacular things to html but I had to see for myself. I promptly abandoned the results and opened WordPerfect, which only inserts one or two worrisome codes here and there. Sheesh.

Now, wasn't that funny? I sure thought so.

Fan Fiction

There is a really cool article about fanfic here. It's all about an author's feeling about their first fic. The evolution of an author must be a really interesting thing to watch/notice happen. I'm in the process of writing my first fic (it's Outer Limits if anyone's interested), it's been very slow going, but there was this plot idea in my head that just wouldn't go away, and since no one else has done anything with it... I decided I had to! I've seen other people call that a plot bunny. So I guess I've got one mother jumping big plot bunny in my head!

The only thing I've done so far that's actually been posted is my contributions to Common Threads. It's just a different creative output. I have to say the feedback is very addictive.

I have to go do work now, it's such fun dealing with equipment that sorta works some of the time. Lightning is so beautiful and yet SOOOOO very destructive! I just want my Deko back! (graphics computer) Maybe I'll actually work on my fic tonight! Or maybe I'll sleep, that's been kinda falling by the wayside lately. Work has consumed everything; sleep & other leisure activities (he he, I used the word leisure!) have been completely shoved aside.

More Giggles

Found some links at this site. They made me laugh out loud in the middle of the newsroom, so I felt that they just had to be shared. Enjoy!

The Notebook Edition

I'm doing a Thursday Threesome! It's been a while since I've done any of these weekly deals, but in catching up with everything on-line I decided to do one. So here goes...

Onesome. Small. Is it a small world? In how many miles of space do you live your life?Um... way too deep answer: sometimes the world in which I live seems very small (like now when I'm practically living at work and THAT'S IT), and other times very large (like when I'm looking at another galaxy in a telescope). And the much too concrete answer: most of the time I'm within about 5 miles of everything else I ever do. Sometimes (maybe once a month or so) I venture as far as 90 miles away, quite the adventure...

Twosome. Spiral. Ever felt as if you were on a downward spiral? How did you pull out of it? YES! I've strugled with depression for quite a few years and now know what that feels like. I've learned to know when I'm starting to slip. I've never fallen quite as far as when I was first diagnosed, but I've gotten close. As far as pulling out of it... I don't know. Sometimes a hug from someone that loves me is enough. Other times there are extra meds involved. One never knows until it's happening.

Threesome. Notebook. Notebooks and pens and crayons and glue...when you think about school supplies, what do you most remember? Shopping for them! That was always my favorite part of going back to school. All those nice new notebooks and folders and pencils and pens and... I could go on and on. For some reason I've always really enjoyed office supply stores. School supply shopping was always a wonderful excuse to go and then actually buy stuff.

Weirdness

This is just plain weird.

Oh, and I uploaded a couple more photos to the Photo Album just in case anyone is interested.

Godzilla

I thought I would join in on the Godzilla insanity. Go check out Davezilla if you're confused.

Is it GODZILLA?

brought to you by Quizilla

Hey, check it out! I know the difference! I must be really smart.

August 23, 2002

The Deluge

On Wednesday we got a ton of rain in just an hour or so. So... roads flooded, as did our parking lot and frontage road at work. I took a bunch of pictures and just finished uploading them to the Photo Album. Go check it out, it's really amazing how high the water got.

Also... today my friend Keva, otherwise known as I Want to Believe, and I got to go up in a C-130 plane with the Navy Leap Frogs. They didn't jump because it was too cloudy and the ceiling was too low, but they opened the back and we got too look out ane everything. It was SO COOL!!!!! I took a bunch of pictures, but I haven't finished getting those ready to upload so you'll just have to wait for another day or two.

We have a Deko that works!!!! Our rental Deko (graphics computer) arrived at work today and it works! and it talks with all the other computers! YEAHHHH!!!!!!! OK, maybe a little excessive, but I'm very excited that we have the Deko back. It makes my life so much easier. (at work anyway!) We are slowly recovering from our lightning strike, it's been rough, but we're getting there.

I'm going to go do errands now, then maybe I'll do something mildly productive, or maybe I'll play FreeCell. That's productive right?

August 26, 2002

Me Needs Me Internet!

Ack! I don't have internet access at home! I had to wait all weekend before I could get on-line again! That has got to change. I took some pictures of my Dolce on Saturday, and I'm going to upload those to the Photo Album as soon as I'm done here.

I'm going to Cirque tomorrow!!!!! I'm a little excited about that, can you tell?

I'm off to check e-mail and blogs. It's amazing how behind you can get in two days!

August 28, 2002

CIRQUE!!!

I went to Cirque last night!!!!! I have been dreaming of seeing it live for years and I finally got to go!!! It was so amazing. I was grinning and laughing and crying I was so excited. I think I probably looked like a little kid most of the night. Staring up at the stage with my mouth wide open smiling and laughing. It was one of their traveling shows "Alegria" and I've seen the movie lots and lots of times and know all of the music by heart. When the singer in white came out I think my heart started going about 200 beats a minute. I was just saying "Oh my gosh, It's her! It's Her!" Then she started singing and I was crying it was so wonderful. I have built Cirque up in my head to such a high level, but they completely fullfiled my hopes and expectations.

I took a LOT of pictures, but I have to get them into my computer before I'll be able to tell if any of them turned out.

Not quite as exciting, but fun as well. I.W.T.B. and myself went geocaching before the show. We found one in Lauderdale (a suberb of Minneapolis). The houses near it were amazing. They were HUGE! Very rich neighborhood.

Once I look through my pictures I'll post the good ones. It was SOOOOOO AMAZING!!!!!!!!

August 29, 2002

Tact

Is there a tactfull way to tell someone they wear WAY too much cologne? There is this guy I know and I swear he bathes in the stuff. You can smell him all the way across the room and into the next. (and these are fairly large rooms) I'm attempting to breath through my mouth right now, but it isn't helping that much.

Something happy... My friend Klink got engaged! Her boyfriend fiance took a couple pictures that she e-mailed to me, so maybe I'll have to post those. I definately have to save them for myself.

I still can't believe I got to go to Cirque!!!! I'm still excited about that, can you tell?

August 30, 2002

Alone

I'm feeling very alone today. I don't know why, but I am. It's a very frustrating feeling. That sense that no one is there for me, that no one is out there that cares. I think I just want a great big hug, but there isn't anyone here that can do that for me. Just thought I'd share that horribly uplifting nugget from my mind.

Thumb Twiddlin'

I decided to to a Thumb Twiddler today.

1. You're helping raise money for a charity, and someone pledges a very large contribution if you'll perform, on stage, at the upcoming fund-raising show. There will be about 1,100 people in the audience. Would you be willing to perform? If so, what sort of act would you prefer to do? Sure, I've done stuff on stages before so that wouldn't be that big a deal (now if they asked for something obscene that'd be something else entirely) I'd be inclined to do a monologue (thank you acting class), or sign a song. Yes, I spelled that right, I've done a lot of songs in ASL (sign language) and that's a lot of fun.

2. Have you ever cheated in a game (like a card game) for money? I can't remember ever playing a game for money period, let alone cheating at one.

3. If you could go back in time and relive any moment in your life exactly as it happened, what event would you choose to experience again? Just because it's so fresh in my memory... I would say going to Cirque. That was such a high, and I was SOOO happy all night. I haven't been that happy in such a long time and it would be great to see/feel/hear/experience that night a second time.

So, even though it isn't really Thursday, I have twiddled my thumbs!

I can Fly!

All the great heroes can fly. And thats what I am, a great hero. I am well rounded. I have a good sense of right and wrong. I seek to do the greatest good for the greatest number of people, but my friends always come first, especially if it's a romantic interest. Despite my amazing gifts, I prefer a quiet position away from the limelight, maybe among the clouds.

What's your superpower?

Counter

I think I just added a counter to my site. If this worked it will be at the bottom of my links list on the left.

August 31, 2002

Stupid People Make Me Laugh

I was driving to work and I saw something that amazed me, so I thought I should share!

There was a car stalled/stopped on the side of the road (busy one, speed limit is 45) apparently the guy had run out of gas because he had one of those plastic gas cans that hold one or two gallons. So, he's putting gas in his tank from this plastic thing and he's smoking! There's a reason you're not supposed to have a cigarette near an OPEN GAS CAN! It's a good way to blow yourself up! Sometimes people's lack of common sense amazes me.

And, just for good measure, something not stupid people related... I'm almost moved out of my current place. Still have some work to do tonight, but the first half of moving is almost done. Yeah! Unfortunately I have to wait a week before I can get internet hooked up at my new place. Ack! Another week without access at home :( very annoying.

I am pleased to report that the counter seems to work. So far it's only counted me, but if someone else shows up hopefully it'll count them too!
