A Night at the Theatre

I had a great night tonight. I went into work this afternoon to do the prep (graphics) for the 5 & 6 pm shows and then left the 10pm in the very capable hands of Syn so I could go to a play. I went to "Oh, Figaro!" by the National Theatre of the Deaf. It was amazing! I strongly encourage anyone (Deaf or hearing) to go to an NToD performance if you ever have a chance.

Just in case anyone is wondering I'm hearing, but I do know ASL and have worked as an interpreter various times. Actually of the languages I know (English obviously, French, a little bit of German, and ASL) I think ASL is my favorite. It just makes so much sense!

There was actually a girl sitting behind me at the play tonight at whom I was very tempted to begin yelling.

I didn't, I was a good girl, but oohhhhh was she pushing my buttons. She was trying to explain the diference between SEE (signing exact english) and ASL (American Sign Language). Her definition was that SEE signs all the words, and ASL skips some. That was it! She totally neglected that ASL is a language while SEE is just English in a different form.

ASL has it's own grammar and syntax. It has it's own art forms, it even has it's own music. It isn't just "gestures". It's a language in it's own right.

rant away! *lol* so many people still have not gotten that it is a language in its own rights. Although I am no where near fluent, I do try each day, my son on the other hand, well, lets just say he will correct me. so cute, sometimes I wish the net wasn't such a pissy place for kids, I would share some photos of him.
have you ever seen Beethovens Nightmare? I haven't yet, but would love to if they ever come this way.

We will convince the masses!!

I honestly hadn't heard of "Beethoven's Nightmare" before, but now I've got another group to look out for! If they ever come this way I am there.

Cis:

Amen sister.

My capeable hands....thanks. ;) Just be sure and tell the boss man that. ;) I'm just sorry you had to come back, but I'm glad you had a good time!! I would have liked to go with you!!

Anyway, I should really go back to studying. :P One more chapter to read. I wouldn't bother, but it's on lighting and I don't know much about that. BAH!!
