What to Do When You Can't Get On-Line

This is making me nuts! I don't know what to do with myself when I'm home. I can't get on-line and it's very annoying.

I've been burning stuff non-stop so that I can take my computer in to get fixed. I've got a lot of stuff on my 'puter! It's also a pain in the butt to check my e-mail when my e-mail program isn't working. I have to do it from a different computer (one without spam protection! Ack!)

It's mostly a LOT of pictures and stories, and aborted blog entries. And the files that go with my television obsession :) And I just cleaned my computer out a few months ago!

I'm hoping for an easy resolution once I do have everything saved. I have pictures I want to show all of you! There's the kitten that Syn is hoping to bring home from the Humane Society, and my parents new car (that they bought on ebay!), and them taking off on the motorcycle that my dad bought a couple weeks ago. They're calling it their "three-quarter life crisis" My parents are goofy.

And just a few hours ago I noticed that my throat was really sore. I have way too much going on to get sick right now! So I better not be!! Do you think that'll keep me from getting sick? Here's hoping!

I gotta go do work now I suppose. But maybe we'll have OT (hockey game is tied right now) and I'll be back later! We can always hope right?

Something that's Not a Problem

I've just discovered a disease from which I most definately do NOT suffer!

Martha Stewart Disease

Can't Wait!

It's barely June and now I'm all excited for July to get here! Why you ask? Well, because on July 1st the Scavanger Hunt begins. It sounds like an absolute blast and you can bet I'll be participating.

Thanks to Christine for the link

Fish Man

The Fish Man says that Ford spots need to stop. *said in very nasal voice* And that there should be more boob birds and turkeys on television.

My Boss is Cool!

I walked into work today and just a few minutes after coming in I heard my boss/manager guy bellow my name. I turned around and he was carrying a box.

Whaa-aaat?

Then he launched into a schpiel about how five years ago today... a scrawny pimply faced girl walked into the building (I wasn't really scrawny or pimply faced, he was being silly) and now I'm director girl/graphics guru. He had a Dairy Queen ice cream cake for me!

He totally made my day. He just made me feel so special!

So... a big huge gigantic THANK YOU JEFF!!!

'Puter Update

Well... Best Buy now has my 'puter. It'll be about a week before I know anything, but it *crosses fingers* seems like it's something that they won't fix. They'll just replace. Here's hoping!

I'm a Good Movie

What Dreams May Come
You are... What Dreams May Come - "I would go
to hell to find you."
Love, above all else, is important to you. When you
love someone, you really love them, and you'd
do anything for them. Sometimes that an get you
into trouble, but to you that isn't important;
what is important is is maintaining the levels
of caring and trust i*n a healthy relationship.
You little romantic, you.

What movie quote are YOU?
brought to you by Quizilla

I saw this one over at Melissa's and she got such a funny (ok, twisted) one that I couldn't resist.

I'm on Syn's dial-up at the moment. But I'll take what I can get! Go congratulate her too, she's gone more than a week without smoking! Go Syn Go!!! And... she just got a brand new kitten today. He's only 8 weeks old and he's adorable! I'll try and have pictures later but we all know how much of a pain that is without my 'puter.

Happy Blogiversary to You!

Go wish Melissa a Happy Blogiversary! Which made me realize that I completely forgot about mine on May 27. Can you believe it's been a year already? It's become such an important part of my life, I can't imagine not having it.

Fun 'n Games

Wil has a very cute entry up about playing the "Not-So-Newlywed Game" with his decidedly un-Treky wife (of course there were lots of Trek questions) Go read it.

Update: fixed the link

A Turtle on What?

This is possibly one of the funniest lines I've ever heard, so I just had to share it!

Our weekday guy is lazier than a turtle on acid.

I read it on some boards I belong to for television production geeks like myself. It cracked up everyone in the newsroom when I read it.

Who Shot Him?

Remember the little Palestinian boy hiding behind his father a few years ago? Remember him getting shot? Remember the Israelis being blamed?

Looks like it didn't go down the way they all said it did.

Amnon Lord, writing for the magazine Makor Rishon, "the Palestinians, in cooperation with foreign journalists and the UN, arranged a well-staged production of his death."

Go read James Fallows' whole article in the Atlantic, it's long, but very worth it.

A Sigh of Relief

I had my court date today. I'm all finished with my whole bankruptcy thing! Woot!

It was awfully anticlimactic. I sat there until it was my turn and then answered a couple of questions. "Yes, No, Yes, Yes, Yes" OK, thank you, you're done. Walked out the door and that was it. In about 60 days I should be getting my final papers and such from the whole thing. And I only owe the lawyer another $200, so that part of this is almost finished too.

I'm so relieved that it's done. And I've been very responsible with my money since the end of September and I've survived.

June 12, 2003

A Whole Week!

It 's been a whole week since I dropped off my 'puter at Best Buy. When I called on Monday they said they were in the midst of fixing it. I called again today, and they said they've fixed some stuff, but they're still waiting on more parts. And it's now in some sort of evaluation phase where they decide if it's worth continuing to fix it. Or... if they should just replace it. I'm hoping for the second option. (obviously) But whatever happens I just wish they'd hurry up and finish so I can either have my 'puter back or a new 'puter. At this point I don't care. I just want a 'puter!! I don't know what to do with myself without it. Very annoying.

But hopefully something will happen soon and this will be done with.

Whoops, Jerry just printed scripts. I should go do my job now.

June 16, 2003

Horrah

I just called Best Buy and they're finished with my 'puter. If it makes the tyruck it'll be back on Tuesday, or at the latest Thursday. I really wish they would have just replaced it, but at this point I'll just be glad to have ANY computer!. I'm getting really sick of this no '[puter at home thing.

And please forgive any typoes in this post. I'm blogging with my glasses off at the moment and I can't see a blasted thing! Horrah for touch typing.

Internet, Sweet Internet

I HAVE MY COMPUTER BACK!!!!!!!!

Can you tell I'm excited? Normal Sunidesus blogging should now resume. No more of this sporadic nonesense. I have loads of pictures I want to upload too. I'll just have to post a couple every day until we're all caught up.

Catching up on my blogs will take a while though. Maybe I'll just read the last week of everybody and call it even.

I'm off to run through the internet now... Wheee!!!!!!!!!!!

June 20, 2003

Participating Again

I've just posted my first Photo Friday entry in ages. It's over in the PhotoBlog go check it out! You can meet the new member of the Sunidesus flock at the same time. How convenient right?

Birthday Wishes

I just got home from my parents' house where we celebrated my birthday. It isn't really my birthday until Thursday, but I didn't have to work today and my big sister is here through the weekend so we did it now instead! I know what you're thinking... "I've heard her talk about a brother before, but never a sister, who is this person?"

Well... technically Gail isn't really my big sister, but she's a part of the family and that's how we refer to each other. When she was in college (I was little, maybe 5 or 6?) she went to the same church as my family. Our church had a program then for college kids that didn't have family in the immediate area. They would get "adopted" for the year by a family from church. Someone with whom to do silly family things, come over for dinner, make cookies, go hiking, whatever. For most of the people it was just for the year, but Gail truly became part of our family and has been ever since.

So! That's who my big sister is.

Had wonderful birthday celebrations today. Wonderful dinner (my dad's pizza, Yum!) and cake (chocolate of course) and then an evening of talking, having fun, and playing games. OK, just game. We played Trivial Pursuit and it took so long for someone to win that we only played that and then called it a night.

And of course I got presents, what kind of a birthday would it be without presents? Got some CD's, a plastic thing for the floor under Dolce's cage, a Target gift card, and a new CD carrier thing. All great presents.

I spent some time playing with my camera with my dad too. He just got a digital camera a little while ago and we have a tendency to play with our cameras and compare results and tricks and such. I was trying out a new trick I just found in a photography magazine a few days ago. It's for when you're trying to take a macro shot in low light. If you don't use your flash it ends up being blurry, but if you use your flash everything is washed out and the shadows are all hard. Here's the trick: take a tissue and put a layer (or two) in front of your flash (not the light sensor though!) and then take the picture like normal. It softens the look of the whole thing without the blurriness of a jumpy hand with a long exposure. I'll post a before and after over in the photoblog in a little bit (gotta edit the pictures first!)

And now I'm home hanging out with the birdies. Such excitement I know, but it's been a great day!

Edit: The flash experiment pictures are now up in the Photoblog here.

Curiouser and Curiouser

I got an e-mail early this morning and it just kinda strikes me as odd. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but it just seems off.

Hurry Halley!

Miss Halley is working on getting comments! Horrah! I've been reading her for just about as long as I've been blogging, so a little under a year-ish and have been wanting to comment since the first day I read her. Amazing writing in those parts.

So hurry please and get them working, ok?

Thinkin'

Jenn has a really great idea started. Kind of a barter thing for bloggers. Very cool idea that just sort of sprung into being over the weekend. Hopefully it'll grow into something very cool.

Happy (Belated) Birthday!

I completely forgot on the day! Whoops!

Happy Birthday to Miss Hannah! She turned one on the 19th. She's come quite a long way from the tiny little thing she was when she was born.

Caught Up

I am now officially caught up on my blogs. Sheesh! You people are so chatty. And I only read what was on the first page of everybody. I didn't go and read everything since when I lost my 'puter. Just the last 7 days(ish)

Now that that's done I can go on with my life! :)

Wishing and Hoping

Gnomedex is starting to look kind of iffy for me. Money is a tighter than I expected right now and that's making me really sad. I so desperately want to go. I want to meet these people! I want to have a weekend where I don't feel out of place being the geek that I am.

I still have about a month to figure something out, so I'm still hopefull. But it isn't looking too promising. Ack!

Note to self: re-upload/print 1241 & 1549 & 1597

Yick

I went to the dentist today for the first time in at least 5 or 6 years. Not fun. They took x-rays and just generally looked at everything and now I'm scheduled to go back on July 11th to have my teeth cleaned and two cavities filled. It's apparently going to cost around $300, which is money I really don't have. Ick, ick, ick.

The guy also wants me to have my wisdom teeth removed, but they're not bothering anything so I really don't see any point in doing that. I will take care of the cavities, because I know that will bother me at some point in the future.

The guy was actually pretty nice. The place where all the dentist chairs are is cool. There's huge floor to ceiling windows all along the wall and they look onto a huge backyard into woods. Lots of squirrels and birds to watch. I just really don't like the dentist. Does anyone like the dentist? It seems to be a pretty universal thing to dis-like that particular event. Just ick.

Almost

In just a little under an hour it's going to be my birthday!

We already had the family get-together, cake, & presents thing on Saturday. But my parents are going to take me out for desert between shows tomorrow for just a little something on the actual day. I should get some chocolate out of it at least!

I should really leave work now. I need to go by Syn's house before I go home. She's out of town for a couple days so I'm checking on her kitten while she's gone. I like playing with him so that'll be fun. Then it's home to play with the birdies and then bed time for me. I've been yawning all day, I'm not sure what my problem is. Not sleeping all that well I guess.

OK, I really need to finish up a last couple of things and then get out of here.

Flock Foto Fun

Just wanted to let everyone know that there's a few new pictures of the new Sunidesus flock member up in the photoblog. I should really start a blog for the two of them. There's a lot more hijinks with two of them. With just one the goings on aren't usually that exciting, but the both of them tend to get each other going more. And Mione is such a little spaz! She ended up behind my television for the 3rd time today.

I seem to have two birds that have some sort of flying dysfunction. Dolce can fly pretty well, he just doesn't like to. Mione doesn't have any cumpunction against flying, but she's horribly inacurate! It's kind of like she gets in the air and then realizes that she has no idea what to do next. She ends up flapping her wings for all she's worth until she crashes into something!

Silly birdies...

About Time!

I just found out that after literally YEARS of waiting and complaining, the newsies at work are finally realizing that our closed captioning system is horrible. Almost every time I meet Deaf people they all tell me how nasty it is. I tell them to complain themselves, the station quit listening to my complaints a long time ago (if they ever listened at all) But it appears that the wrath of the FCC may have finally done the trick.

The News Director has been clued in that it's an FCC requirement for the cc to be working, it's not "just" a service. Success! It makes me happy that at long last someone is taking this seriously. It's about freakin' time!

A Great Way to End the Week

I think Syn is the only one that's going to get this, well Lair might too.

After hearing about it for quite some time, I saw the World News Now Polka tonight! Very goofy, silly, and just plain fun.

Business news from Tokyo. Stuff you saw on Koppel's show
That's the World News Polka!

It's late at night, you're wide awake and you're not wearing pants.
So grab your World News Now mug and everybody dance!

Talk About Blowing Something Out of Proportion

20/20 is running an insane segment on "Ambush TV" right now. They are making such a huge deal out of something that isn't!

The people we end up seeing have SIGNED RELEASES!! They have agreed to have that video shown on national TV. And the only reason people are suing is because we live in a lawyer happy culture. If people even smell a chance of getting money out of a "deep pocket" they're going to sue.

Just ridiculous the things that "news" magazines turn into BIG! SCANDALOUS! stories.

Slide

Even on a day like this when you're crawling on the floor
Reaching for the phone to ring anyone who knows you anymore
It's all right to make mistakes, you're only human
Inside everybody's hiding something

Staring at the same four walls, have you tried to help yourself
The rings around your eyes they don't hide, that you need to get some rest
It's all right to make mistakes you're only human
Inside everybody's hiding something
Take time to catch your breath and choose your moment

Don't slide
Don't slide
Don't slide

Even at a time like this when the morning seems so far
Think that pain belongs to you but it's happened to us all
It's all right to make mistakes you're only human
Inside everybody's hiding something
Take time to catch your breath and choose your moment

Don't slide
Don't slide
Don't slide

You brought this on yourself
And it's high time you left it there
Lie here and rest your head
And dream of something else instead

Don't slide
Don't slide
Don't slide

Dido

Vaguely Recognizable

I'm not sure why I found this so amusing, but I did and now you're going to be subjected to it!

It's the song of the Elements!

Found at Solonor's

It reminds me of Yakko's World. The Animaniacs song with all the countries in it. I've always enjoyed that song (and can almost sing the whole thing by myself without help) now maybe I'll have to try to learn the Elements song! Yep, I know, I'm a dork.

Brilliant

Halley is a genius. Her writing consistantly amazes me.

Musical Memes

Remember Michele's A-Z songs game/meme? Well, just to refresh your memory here's my list of songs. I just spent the evening making it into two CD's, they wouldn't all fit on just one. I haven't listened to the thing yet, but it's sure to be an interesting mix when I do!

Rerun Recognition

I'm watching a rerun of Friends on the local Fox station and Vaughn (you know, from Alias) is a guest star. He's such a cutie!

And the Winner Is...

I warned you! I told you I might make a Dolce blog. And look at that I did! I'm really not done with it yet. The text colors and such aren't right yet. But it's at least moderatly presentable now so I'm posting that I'm doing it.

And if you can't figure it out from the design of the thing... a "fid" is a Feathered kID. So it'll be my Dolce & Mione blog. My main template here is so basic, every time I do a new blog (or help someone else with one!) they're more complicated than the last. I'm learning all kinds of interesting new CSS things while making this look right. Fun for me, in a geeky sort of way.

June 30, 2003

Woot!

OK, the main page at the Birdie Blog is now working. The comments/trackback/archives still look horrid, but they work. The main page looks right and as an added bonus, it works! I've been designing/coding/banging head against computer for the past six hours so I think I'm going to stop now. I'll probably read/post for a bit yet before bed, just no more designing. I think my brain has about had it for tonight!

But you never know, I might go on a wild coding frenzy BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

26 Things

The 26 Things list has been posted! We've all got until the end of July to take pictures of everything on the list. Should be fun. Now I'm going to be obsessively taking pictures even more than I normaly do. Hehehehehehe. Some of them don't look too hard, but others of them are concepts instead of objects so those will be harder. And of course a number of them are both objects and concepts!

Drivers start your shutters!

Drat!

I just checked the Birdie Blog on a computer with a different resolution and it's all messed up. Piffle Fribbits! And we're back to square one.
