Peta Strikes Again

PETA has decided that a church in eastern Wisconsin shouldn't have their pig roast. The told the church that they are mocking God by serving pork at their picnic. I'm really not sure how that mocks God. If it were a Jewish church I could see how they got it. But this is a Lutheran church! Lutherans are allowed to eat pork!

The church said they're going to have their picnic anyway.

I think we need another "Eat Meat for PETA" Day.

Projects and Cameras

I finally uploaded my 26 Things entry. I had a lot of fun finding all the pictures for the different subjects. Go check out my entry and of course everyone elses at the 26 things site. Enjoy!

Fun and Sore Muscles

Syn and I had our very first Irish dance class today! We have to drive about an hour and a half to get there, but it was totally worth it. Lots of fun! It's at a school called Scoil na d'Tri and I'm exhausted and sore, but it was such fun. We'll be going back on Sundays from now on I think. Just gotta buy the right shoes now. And practice! We learned a very basic first step that they called "hop one two three" I'm going to be hop one two three-ing around the station all night tonight I think. :)

Also it's Syn's birthday today!! WooHoo! A bunch of people from work went out last night to celebrate. I have a few lets call them 'interesting' pictures. Some shots, some fire, something blue, and some very loud music. I actually had fun too and I don't usually enjoy bars. I may have to post some of them later... heehee!

The Morning After

My calves are incredibly sore! I think I'm going to have to stretch a bunch this morning to get my legs to loosen up at least a little bit. But it was fun! And so worth it.

That's an Idea

Halley wants to have a Mad Libs Blogging Party. Everybody tell her she needs to get comments and then we'll all be there ready to play!

And she knows Sardines! Which I remember playing in middle school but have never heard anyone else talk about. Cool!

Tonight at Ten...

We'll have the game that looked like it was going to go really late, but then didn't because there was lightning. So we actually hit on time on a Monday Night Football night! I think that's maybe happened once that I can think of.

And now I'm waiting for everyone to leave (or at least Jerry, Jocko can stay) so I can hop-1-2-3 around the building. I can't practice at home very well because I don't have enough empty space. I could practice in my parents' basement though... I might have to try that. They're always dancing in the kitchen I should be able to dance in the basement!

I also need to finish Northland yet tonight. I actually have most of the dubs finished already, did them in between shows. I only have four dubs to do and 9 tapes to put spots on. That's actually hardly any compared to a normal night. I might actually get out of here somewhat early on a Monday night. Weird!

I have some deep thoughts about today's events that I've been thinking about blogging all day. I may or may not write a big long political post later, I'll just have to see how I'm feeling about it later when I have time to think.

Oh! One more very exciting thing. I'm going to see Cirque on Friday with my mom and Syn! Woot! The newest show Varekai is in Chicago and we're going. Horrah! It should be lots of fun.

I think that's all the oh so exciting updates on my life (at the moment anyway) What are all of you up to?

Yick

Just remembered that I have a dentist appointment in the morning. Ick, ick, ick, ick, ick! Sooooo not looking forward to that. When I went a month or so ago he found a couple cavities so I'm going in to get that taken care of. I know it has to be done, but I'd really rather ignore it!

Then when that's done I have to go to work and edit! Another ick! At least I get to TD which'll be fun, but that's about the only plus side to it.

But then it's two days off in Chicago seeing Cirque! *tries to remember to concentrate on that*

I've been hop-1-2-3-ing all over the building the last couple days. My calves are kinda sore, but in a good way. I'm ready for another class so I can learn more! Gotta scrape together enough money so I can buy shoes too. It should be around $40 or $50 for softshoes. I love the way I feel when I'm dancing (well, the one step I know anyway) It makes me feel good! I've been trying to go for at least 15 minutes a night. Gotta work on that endurance thing.

I'm rambling here and I should really try to go to sleep. Eh, maybe later.

Lived to tell the Tale

Well, I survived the dentist. Half of my nose and upper lip are completely numb at the moment, but other than that I seem to be unscathed. Not exactly an enjoyable experience, but at least it didn't really hurt. The noise alone though is enough to make a person miserable. It's really odd hearing that whirring noise and feeling all the pressure on your jaw, but not really feeling what he's doing. Not that I'm complaining! Just saying it felt weird.

Please No

I suspect that before too long, other denominations will also follow and welcome openly gay and lesbian people into leadership ositions. That's certainly my prayer.
- Gene Robinson -

Well I certainly hope that you're wrong.

Expanding on the Previous

I'm going to start this off by saying that I don't have a problem with gay people. I think they have as much right to be here as the next person. You can agree or disagree with me on the rest of this, that's up to you. You can try to change my mind if you want. But we should all agree that everyone has the same right to be on this earth and to be treated with respect.

Dial-Up Sucks!

In Rockford for the night before heading to Cirque! in Chicago tomorrow. Mom & I went out for dinner which was nice. Temporarily on parental dial-up account so I can check e-mail quickly and get some directions to restaurants in Chicago.

We'll see if I can take some surreptitious photos like last time heehee!

Really gotta get off-line now. I'll have to catch up with everyone when I get home Friday night.

Not as Verbose as Normal

I actually have been doing things and reading and all of that. I just haven't felt like writing! I have lots of pictures that need to be edited and uploaded too. And of course it's Monday which means I'm stuck at work till all hours of the morning. Yick. I really need to talk to my boss about stuff. I think we might have football too, but I'm not sure about that one. The preseason is always so goofy, a game here and there, but not every week.

I really need to shut this off and leave. I have a second job interview at a flunky job at a local skating rink. Let's hope that goes well!

OK, I'm leaving now.

August 12, 2003

Horrah! Woot! Yippee!

I've been a little behind in my blog-reading and trying to catch up today... came across the most amazing news over at Robyn's. They're expecting! A baby! And have made it to the second trimester! And it's going really well so far! (was that enough exclamation marks?)

The baby is due on February 15 and I couldn't be happier for them. That is just such great news, especially considering how hard it's been to get there. Horrah!

So that's all, just had to share that I'm so very, very, very happy for Robyn & Todd!

Are You?

Are you reading Halley? Are you? Well why not! Go read her! She's amazing, and always seems to write something to remind me of what's important in life.

Bloggin' in the Break Room

That sounds like it should be a song...

Anyway! There's this nifty service available in my city called Monet that enables you to get on-line wirelessly anywhere in the city, at broadband speeds. After doing some research and discovering that it costs about the same as I'm paying for my cable modem, I went by today and picked up a modem. So I am now a go anywhere, blog everything, geeky kind of girl! Go me!

Now I get to call up the cable company and tell them they don't get my money any more. That'll be fun! And with work spies becoming more normal, this way I can stay off their networks and still relax on my breaks. Actually we've been told that come fall all the computers will be tied into the giant corporate network and at that point EVERYTHING we do on-line (on the computers period? don't know) can be monitored. Soooo don't really want to be blogging at work when that happens!

At any rate I'm bloggin' in the break room and I just had to share! Oh, and if anyone lives in any of Monet's coverage areas and want to sign up, tell them I sent you. I can get a month's free service for a referral. Sa-weet!

Hope Everyone's OK!

Now something happens (like the power being out on the east coast eek!) and I immediately think, "Are the bloggers OK?"

I know you guys don't have power right now, but I'm hoping you're all OK and will have fun stories to tell us once you get your power back!

Slowly but Surely

From the comments on my previous post it seems that Rochester at least has power back. Justin checked in to say all is well there. Hopefully the rest of the east coast won't be far behind!

He Thinks I'm Sessy!

Solly has declared me his Aortal Site of the Week! That's just cool. Thanks!

So now I'm desperately searching my brain for something interesting to post here. Coming up with squat! Hmmm...... well...... in a few weeks I should hit 10,000 visitors. That's kinda interesting right?

As soon as I finish writing this I'm going to pack up my cable modem stuff and take it over to the cable company. I have city-wide wireless broadband access now. Sa-weet! I've only had it for a few days and I'm already loving it.

OK, anything else interesting? Um... I finally got a part time job. Not really interesting, but something I've been trying to find for a very long time. It's just a silly flunky cashier kind of job at a local skating rink, but I really need a little extra money so, oh well!

And thanks to vejadu's comment on a previous post I've got the title of the book that originally inspired the name "sunidesus"! And a library in the area has it. I have to do a request at the library in my city, but then they can get it from the library that has it. I need to take care of my fine and then I can get it. Ah, the wonder of blogs!

Well, turns out I had more to talk about than I thought. Go figure. So thanks to Solonor! To borrow the words of another blogger, "Love ya baybee!"

And One More Thing

All you weirdos that have put comments on this post... Did you see the date on it? It's from last November! If I didn't have MT set to e-mail me comments I'd have never known that you said something.

What's the deal with people commenting on a post from ages ago? Is there some weird non-blogger gene that makes people not understand the concept of a date? And it's never actual bloggers. It's people who just leave an e-mail address (if anything)

OK, I'm really done now. Just had to add that one little tidbit.

Hey All!

Well, the short version is that I had a really crappy day at work. The long version I can't say right now. But I'm going to have to have some sort of restricted entries thing. Which I REALLY don't want to do. This is my blog and I shouldn't have to change something just because my boss doesn't like what I wrote. I wasn't on a work computer when I wrote it. I was on my computer. I didn't name specific people or link to where I work.

So I ended up yanking a post, and now I'm going to have to investigate different ways to password/restrict certain areas of this place. But not all of it. Ideally what I'd like is to have two different kinds of entries (maybe categories?) stuff that everyone can read and stuff that you can read if I've said it's OK. If I've said it's OK I'd like for everything to look like it does now. But if I haven't said it's OK then the restricted posts would just show up as "This is restricted, ask me for access" or something like that.

I think I saw someone's that did something similar ages ago, but I don't remember who it was to ask them how to do it! So... I'm going to put this out there for all of you. I'll of course be searching myself, but does anyone know how to do what I'm talking about?

Gotta go do work now.

Calling All Geeks!

I found the Scriptygoddess restricted access hack which does exactly what I was wanting. However... I totally don't understand where to put what parts! Eep!

The first thing that I think I might have a problem with is that it says that my site has to be using php. I know my host supports php, but does that mean that I have to convert my blog from html to php? I just barely understand html, do I need to learn something new to make this work?

That's my first big problem. (emphasis on the "first") It looks like the end result is exactly what I want, so I'll probably be trying to implement it. It's just a lot more complicated than anything I've ever successfully gotten to work in the past so I'm a little nervous about it. Shouldn't be, I know. But I am.

My only other option is to completely change domains which I REALLY don't want to do. I've been "Sunidesus" on-line since the first day my dad set us up with AOL way back in middle school. That's me! And I really don't like being forced into changing that. There's really only two people that I'm worried about seeing anything here and if there was a way to keep them away then this wouldn't be a problem. But it seems that it's going to have to be complicated.

Ranting Some More

I'm just so angry about the whole thing. I didn't do anything wrong and I don't like being made to feel that I did. I want to say soooo much more, and normally I would. But now I feel like I can't talk on my own blog. This whole thing has got me so upset.

This place has become an extension of my brain. This is where everything I think and feel goes. They can't tell me what I can and can't think. No one can except me.

Making Progress

Step one is complete (I hope)

I've managed to ban the ip's of two key places so hopefully that'll at least put some space between me and them.

And to mister annonymous commenter two posts down... well, I don't really know what to say to you. I'm pretty sure I know exactly who you are so you aren't really annonymous. But I have the urge to find a script that works like the one on /. and replaces the user name of annonymous people with "Annonymous Coward" That'd be more fun.

Gah! This is NOT how I wanted to spend my day! Although Syn did take me out to dinner because of it and that was lovely.

How I Feel

This is exactly how I feel right now.

Extra points if you know where it's from.

Ding, Ding, Ding

And the winner is...

Syn!

It's Dot from Animaniacs at the tail end of the "I'm Cute" song. It started playing in my head last night and it was exactly right.

It's Official

After fighting with my htaccess file I got it to work properly and it's all good now. Now on to trying to get that Scriptygoddess hack to work. I'm kind of thinking I might need to make some custom error pages now if people are going to actually be running into them.

It's Not a Tumah!

Sooooo Much Fun!

Had class number two today. Learned a bunch of new parts and even have enough to put it together into whole step! Sweated like a pig the whole time. But it was fun so that's ok. I drank almost 2 liters of water to make up for it.

After class we went to Irish on Grand to get shoes. They had them for not too much money and Syn loaned me a little and we both got shoes! I just laced mine up and tried them on and they're a tad too big. The next time I'm in the cities I'll have to exchange them for a half size smaller.

And! The chick that taught us today (Joanne I think) said that if we kept doing well we might be able to start hard shoes around Christmas time! Woot! I'm really enjoying the soft shoe stuff, but the hard shoes look like even more fun.

So after an absolutely horrid Friday. I've had an amazing weekend. Horrah!

Notes to Self

Just some reminders to myself of how to do the various stuff we learned at class yesterday...

Cut - foot in front towards pocket
Hop - kick butt
High - knee towards chin
"3's" - (Hop 1, 2, 3)
"7's" - High, right - close, right - close, right - close

Always remember crossover & turnout & arms!

Step we learned yesterday:
High, right - close, High, right - close,
High, right - close, right - close, right - close
High, 7's in a circle to the right
High, High, Leap, left - close

Same to the left

Drills:
Hop 1 2 3
Skips
High, 2 3 (or was this High, High 2 3? to make it work with 4/4?)

[Update] for a drill it has to be High 1 2 3, just like with the Hop. Otherwise you end up doing the entire thing on the same leg. [/Update]

Question:
Can you do 7's with any opening move? Like "Cut, right - close, right - close, right - close"? Or do 7's always start with a High?

I'm much less sore than I was at this time after class #1. I'm really wanting the right size shoes now so I can start working on breaking them in. Heehee! Having fun! Now my parents won't be the only ones dancing around all the time.

Shout out to the Blogosphere!

My girl Syn is looking for some help identifying a song from 10ish years ago. I'm of absolutely no help because I've never really listened to popular music. But... I know there's a lot of you out there that did/do so go read what she remembers about the song and try to help her out. And of course if you don't know what it is you could always put a link on your blog to get more people looking.

That's all! Just wanted to ask for some help from all the geniuses out there.

Whales are People Too

And just like people, sometimes they need let one loose.

Whale Flatulence Stuns Scientists

The part I find the most amusing is that they all said it smelled pretty bad, but if you read the article it says that they were studying the DNA of whale dung! So wouldn't it already be awfully darn stinky on that boat? And get this, there's even a picture! A whale fart bubble!

I was just browsing my referrers and noticed one from the Blogosphere Ecosystem. It would appear that I have made my way up to being a Fish! Success!

I've had this game for quite some time. Probably since shortly after it came out. Be warned it's terribly addictive!

I just managed to finish level 50 for the first time!!! Woot!!!!

Turns out that instead of just ending at the last level it starts over at the first level, but with more bad guys (gnomes) so also more difficult. I wonder, does it keep looping like that? Or does it quit at 100 levels?

Must. Find. Out.

(did I mention it's addictive?)

Such a Baby Face!

I'm watching this episode of Head of the Class on Nick at Night and there's a very young, very cute Brad Pitt as the guest star!

It's so odd seeing actors in stuff from ages ago. They look so little!

Errors

I've been getting this weird 404 errors in my site stats for quite a while now. We're talking months. They all show up as referrers from a couple of diaryland sites. This one and this one. They're always trying to get to an imagine in a folder that doesn't exist and never has existed. Obviously they get a 404 page. What I don't understand is why they keep persisting in trying to find these files!

I've visited both sites to try to find the offending link so I can let the owners know. But I can't find the links.

Does anyone else get this kind of weirdness or is it just me?

Approaching a Milestone

Assuming I keep getting visitors at about the same rate I should be hitting 10,000 visitors sometime around Tuesday or Wednesday!

Also, just out of curiosity... are any of you using my Portal Page? I don't really care, but it seems that there's more hits for it in my page stats than there should be with just me using it. Not a problem, just curious!

Abrupt change of subject...

There's no dance class this Sunday or the next :( If it were available, and I could fit it into my schedule, I seriously think I'd go just about every day.

Another subject change...

I officially start my flunky part-time job on Saturday. I'm not anticipating any problems. It seems straightforward enough. We'll see how that goes!

I think that's it for the subject changes! But you never know when I might show up again...

What Makes You Happy?

Chey wants to know what makes you happy.

Here goes! (I'll probably be adding to this through the day as I think of things)

Getting a hug.
My birdie snuggling up to me and being comfortable enough to fall asleep.
An ice cold Coke.
Working really hard on a project and then being told I did a good job.
Puppy & kitty kisses.
Finding the perfect present for someone and seeing their face when they open it.
Chocolate! (the darker the better!)
A winter night with big fluffy snowflakes falling so that everything is all bright.
Crisp fall days when the leaves are at their peek of crunchiness & color.

This is kinda nifty. It's the Gender Genie and you give it some text and it decides if the writer is male or female. It gives some info about keywords at the bottom, but I don't really understand how it works. I'll have to investigate further.

Happy Birthday!

Michele pointed out that yesterday was Mr. Ray Bradbury's 83rd birthday and she included an amazing quote that's just too good to not put here too!

For it is a mad world and it will get madder if we allow the minorities, be they dwarf or giant, orangutan or dolphin, nuclear-head or water-conversationalist, pro-computerologist or Neo-Luddite, simpleton or sage, to interfere with aesthetics. The real world is the playing ground for each and every group, to make or unmake laws. But the tip of the nose of my book or stories or poems is where their rights and my territorial imperatives begin, run and rule. If Mormons do not like my plays, let them write their own. If the Irish hate my Dublin stories, let them rent typewriters. If teachers and grammar school editors find my jawbreaker sentences shatter their mushmild teeth, let them eat stale cake dunked in weak tea of their own ungodly manufacture. If the Chicano intellectuals wish to re-cut my "Wonderful Ice Cream Suit" so it shapes "Zoot," may the belt unravel and the pants fall.

Happy Birthday Mr. Bradbury!

Please Let it Continue

It started raining just now. I'm hoping it keeps up for a while. We're in desperate need of a bunch of it. All the yards around here are brown and there's burning bans everywhere. Some cities around here have enacted watering bans.

So I hope it lasts! We need it.

Geek History

I'm watching Failure is Not an Option on the history channel right now. It's fascinating. All about the mission control guys at NASA during the heyday of the space program. Lots of amazing video and current interviews with the controllers and some of the astronauts. Incredible stuff.

Ooohhh! And it's based on the book by one of the flight controllers. I have to find and read it now!

I've been fascinated with space for as long as I can remember. I dream of the day when it's a commercially available thing. I would jump at the slightest chance of being able to go up there. I'd love to have loads of money just so I could do what that Tito guy did a year or so ago.

Hmmmmm.......

Chris is being very enigmatic and I have to admit I'm incredibly curious.

He says it's good whatever it is. I'm assuming/hoping that it means we'll get to see him back on TV. That was the reason for the LA move after all. But he says he can't say anything for at least two more weeks! Ack! Not sure I can wait that long!

Stretching my Brain

I just signed up for a web programming class at the local university! It covers html, java, and css. I'm sure I'll know some of it, sorta know other bits, and some will be completely new (like the java!) I'm looking forward to it.

I don't think I've taken an actual class for at least two years. I took an astronomy class the spring of 2000, and I took a Deaf Culture class the summer of 2001, but I think that's the last structured thing I did.

It's 12-2 on Monday and then 1-2 on Wed. & Fri. And campus is very close to my house so I'll be walking (or hop-1-2-3ing maybe) since there are very few parking places that are closer than my house! Starts next Wednesday.

In other random happenings...

I sent off 7 more resume tapes on Tuesday *crosses fingers for a phone call* and spent three hours taking resumes around town looking for a part time job.

Remember the flunky part-time job I was supposed to start on Saturday? Yeah. That didn't happen. I got a phone call on Friday that they had been bought and that everyone who was scheduled on Saturday "wasn't scheduled any more, but you should feel free to re-apply". Yeah. K then! So we're back to square one on that front.

Out in the World

It's a beautiful day today. A little cloudy so the sun isn't overpowering, a nice breeze, low humidity, and not too warm.

It's so nice out I decided to break out the hammock. That means going to parental household since I don't have a place to hang it at my apartment. And thanks to my nifty new modem I'm outside in my hammock enjoying the beautiful day, and blogging! All at the same time! There's photographic proof in today's post in the photoblog.

Lots of squirrels looking for nuts and other things to scurry away. The crows are fighting, and there's a cardinal in the lilacs maybe 20 feet away from me. Maybe she'll come closer...

Great, Now THAT's in my Head!

Christine has a post about the Skippy Squeeze thingy commercial with which she sings along and annoys Jason. It made me think of this and I just had to share:

I'm just a guy, just a man and a dude and I'm hungry!
And I'm goin' real fast cuz I'm headed first class for steak at Taco Bell.
Jonesin' for a grilled steak taco, steak's the king of meat.
So I run and I walk 'cuz I can't find a horse to ride there!
Gotta shimmy, gotta shake, for a marinated steak. It's found at Taco Bell.
Grilled steak tacos! From Taco Bell!!!!!!!!
