Remembering

9_11_2001.jpg

I went in to work this morning for about 2 hours so Syn could leave to take her kitty to the vet. I'm very glad that it forced me to get up this morning. I watched GMA's special report while I was there.

I didn't know that the kids were those that had lost someone. When the first two kids said they loved and missed their parents it caught me off guard. I've been crying on and off all morning. I'll be OK and then I'll see the giant Perkins flag flying at half staff and start up again.

On my way back home I was listening to Kathleen Dunn on WPR and she was interviewing Tim Clausen who has done more than 80 hours of interviews with the families and friends of the victims. They aired snipets of various people's interviews. There was one with a widow that was incredibly moving.

"I just couldn't stand the thought of my husband down underneath there with a hundred broken bones, bleeding. I ran to the top of the street and I just lost it. I kneeled down and I screamed."

Hug someone, tell them you love them, remember the important things.

(the photos: the flag is the Perkins flag that I shot today, the people are from a candlelight vigil that first weekend, I think it was on Saturday)

and my Voices submission is here

[Update] I think I'm just going to keep tacking today's thoughts onto the end of this post. I want the picture to stay at the top of my page today.

I've noticed a lot of people complaining about the media again and I just wanted to repeat what I said last year.
