Conquering AOL

After much fighting with aol I've finally got my AIM/Yahoo/ICQ/Trillian combo installed on my desktop. The laptop is still something of a mystery, but at least I can do my normal chatting in the living room.

I Just Hope They Don't Ruin It

Apparently Disney is planning to make their own version of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

That is one of best series of books ever so I'm really hoping that they don't do their typical Disneyfication of it and ruin the intent of the story. On the other hand, if it's done right it'll be very good!

Time Waster

Just a silly little game I found while wandering the net Fishy! You have to eat fish that are smaller than you while avioding fish that are bigger than you ('cuz they'll eat ya!)

Calling All Grammar Nazis

I have a grammar question that I can't quite figure out myself. So all of you grammar freaks out there help me out, k?

Here is the situation:

Can the sentence Martha is guilty. be changed to Martha's guilty. contracting the is?

I know if it were a possesive use of the "apostrophe s" then guilty would need to be changed to guilt. Martha's guilt. But in this case it isn't being used as a possesive, it's being used as a contraction.

If it were he is or she is I know it would be right to use he's or she's, but the proper noun is throwing me off.. He and she both have possesive forms that don't use the apostrophe s, but proper nouns use the apostrophe s to show possesion. Is it even kosher to form a contraction with a proper noun?

Can anyone shine some light on this? Because I'm confused!

A Simple Question

Why does CBS continue to give air time to Andy Rooney?

I'm at work. Yep. It's 3:30 in the morning and I'm at work. I'm doing mornings this week since the normal morning director is on vacation. So I just saw the Andy Rooney list thing from, I'm guessing, the end of 60 minutes yesterday.

I do not understand why he's still on the air. The man is hard to listen to, annoying, and pompous.

Approaching Milestones

I just noticed that I'm less than 200 hits away from hitting 15,000. That's nifty!

I'm also only about 70 posts away from 1,000 on this hear blog. That means I average about 1 and a quarter posts a day. Not counting the photoblog of course, since that adds another 200 some to the total.

It's 10 in the morning, I haven't slept yet, I'm still stuck at work, and I found all of that interesting. So I decided to share! Aren't you all glad?

Stupid People Annoy Me

I've been directing morning's all this week and it's been all I can do to just get myself to work so there hasn't been a whole heck of a lot of blogging happening!

I just checked my e-mail for the first time in a couple days and there was a comment on an old Photoblog entry that really pissed me off so I'm gonna vent for a minute!

It was on this entry (the comment has been deleted) about the Polar Plunge from last winter. In case you weren't around then I'll recap. (aren't I nice ) The Polar Plunge is something that happenes across Wisconsin every winter. It's a fund-raiser for Special Olympics. Basically a bunch of crazy people jump into freezing cold water through a hole in the ice. If you're going to jump you get pledges before hand and they raise a ton of money every winter that way. Remember, this is Wisconsin, in January or February, it's very cold!

Honestly though, it's not as bad as you'd think. It's over before you really even realize it happened. The worst part is waiting to jump! Last year was my second year jumping and if I were still there I'd have jumped again this year!

So, now that you're all caught up...

Today I found this comment left on that entry:

Name: phillipe
Email Address: phillipe@sympatico.net

u r gay and stupid

Some freak from Canada seems to think that this wasn't something I should have bothered posting about. And it really bothered me! Why do people have the need to be so ridiculously mean and stupid? If someone left a nasty comment on one of my opinion posts that'd be something else entirely. But what can possibly be "gay" or "stupid" about helping Special Olympics?!?!?!?

And now that I've vented about that I feel much better!

Interesting... Very Interesting...

I got to work a little over an hour ago (no 6pm news today woot!) and there's one of those Made-For-TV movies on CBS tonight. Family Sins, apparently it's based on a true story that happened around here in 1990. There's a couple of the victims in the front of the building watching it right now. I'm assuming they've been interviewed and it'll be a PKG or something later.

Update: I just read the PKG that's been written for the 11pm show. The story was broken by one of the investigative reporters here. The first video down in the basement showing these people beeing kept as slaves was shot by a photog here. And they're sitting in the front of the station right now. It's really strange. You never think of these people as being real people that actually went through these horrible things. But they are. They're very real.

It's Happened

I found out tonight that I've been essentially "outed" as a blogger to a number of my co-workers. I'm not sure how I feel about that. And it's not just that they know, some of them have apparently been reading regularly. I kinda figured it was coming since I haven't been nearly as private about it as I was at my last job. But it's still weird.

To the fishies!

It seems that the female cherry barb in the tank at work has given birth. I spotted one baby tonight, and there may be more. They're awfully hard to see. Tiny little things!

Update: There are two confirmed little fishies. They're fast little buggers, zipping all over the place.

I'm Not Sure How I Feel About This

I finally got around to my tape of Century City's premiere. The show is interesting, but it has the potential to completely piss me off. I'm not sure which way it'll go yet.

This first episode is about cloning and when a baby is alive. If you've been around here for any length of time you know that those are some subjects on which I have some pretty strong opionions.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It Worked!

And I'm in shock that it did! And how easy it was.

The latest entry from my Photoblog now shows up at the upper right of this page, just above the latest image from my Moblog.

I had this feeling that it was going to be this complicated hard thing to do, but it wasn't. Download a plugin, stick the proper image tags in the entry, and add the snippet of code to my template. And it's ready to go just like that *snaps fingers*

It's Creepin' Me Out!

The new Six Flags commercial creeps me out! The old dude dancing just disturbs me for some reason. I have no idea why.

Now you know.

Don't Mind Me

I'm just testing a theory...

Update: Theory has been tested!

Apparently I can't add an "alt" tag into a link. But I've seen people have something that looks like an "alt" show up on their site. So how do I do it? I'll have to investigate after I TD this show that's coming up here.

More Geekiness

I figured it out. It's not an "alt" tag that I needed. It was a "title" tag. Now it works. That makes me happy.

Find out what kind of driver you are!

I was kind of expecting to be a "Passive Driver", but living out here on the east coast is making me slightly more agressive.

March 27, 2004

I've never really used an RSS reader, I haven't felt the need. I like actually visiting the blogs I read. I know it's the same words regardless of where I'm reading them, but I just prefer the actual sites.

Anyway, I decided to finally download a reader so that I could subscribe to the MT-Blacklist new spam RSS feed. As long as I'm at it, I figure I'll subscribe to my own site and make sure it's all hunky dory. Yeah. It's not. And I have no idea how to fix it.

Is anyone out there reading my site through a feed reader? Does it look right? When I click on the "syndicate" link the page that comes up seems right. It has all the stuff on it that I want. But in the reader it comes up all funky and just plain wrong. Any insights? Is it the reader? Am I just being a moron? (always a possibility )

In the meantime don't mind me, I'll just be over here doing this ---->

Update: I am now ready to hurt someone! I subscribed to my photoblog and that shows up perfectly. So, perhaps it's something wrong with the template on the main blog. We'll just copy the template over, rebuild indexes, resubscribe, and... still broken. I am so confused!

More RSS Fun

It would appear that the problem was with the reader. I downloaded a new one RSSFeedEater which is working perfectly fine. So all of my head vs. wall was apparently unnecessary. Oh well. At least I have a feed reader that works and that I like now!

Are You Watching?

Have you guys been watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition? If not, you should be. It's hosted by Ty from Trading Spaces so you're guaranteed to enjoy that part at least! But it's even better than that. It's such a great show!

So far I've cried at the end of every single episode. It's so amazing to watch these families that are so completely deserving get the homes of their dreams. So next time it's on make sure you watch it!
